WordPress FTP Logindaten falsch
Just incase you are getting this error message when submitting a post and get confused by the drama queens such as http://wordpress.org/support/topic/352761 you should just check your recently installed plugins.
In my case it was the "Really static" plugin which basically writes your postings out as flat HTML. It is a fairly dirty little plugin, but a great idea, it may be fine once it is totally set up, basically just don't have it activated unless you have it all set up correctly.
Raising Victor Vargas
I know this posting is effectively out of date at the time of writing, but I only just discovered this exceptional film.
If you have't already seen it, it is basically a 'slice of life' drama / romance based in the lower east side of Manhattan in New York City against the backdrop of the Hispanic community and the glowing orange sun of summer.
Incredibly intriguing and captivating, I found it impossible to turn away once I began to watch. I am usually one of the harshest critic0,s but to me this film was just brilliant, strange as this may sound I could almost smell the air and feel the textures of the locations.
From a cinematographic I thought there was great use of light and texture. From the orange glow of the summer light, down to the plastic wrapped couch all had a distinct air of realism to me.
From a character perspective I thought the notion of Victor Vargas as almost the glue that connects the story was quite inspired, each of the other members of the family having a more complete background simply caused greater intrigue in the main character himself.
Beyond that, having known someone just like the grandmother and having been on the receiving end of just such a situation, I can say the situation felt particularly realistic. The awkwardness, the accent, the cooking and even down to the comments made felt so authentic to me.
I think this film worked for me because I began to watch it with no expectations and found it completely immersing and brought back memories of teenage emotion, well worth a watch.
Permalinks without .htaccess
If you want to use Permalinks on wordpress blogs but want to use the Apache recommended method of virtual hosts and directory directives rather than .htaccess files the following may help.
Go to settings and permalinks change to the style you want click save, then open the .htaccess file copy it's contents, then edit your virtual host settings in your apache config file adding the directory of your blog and paste the contents of the htaccess file between the directory tags.
This is mainly useful if you are running a range of different sites on the one server and may want different permalink styles in each and perhaps within each directory.
English to Farsi translation
Well we are not sure how well this will go, but I have set up a site for professional document translation from English to Farsi and vice versa. I will be writing a lot more about it in the future, but basically it will allow users to upload documents to the site where they will be given a quote for the translation services.
Once a price and due date is accepted the translation will be undertaken, the document then proof read by a native speaker and returned to the customer upon receipt of payment via either pay pal or credit card.
WordPress asking for FTP details on plugin install
If you find your wordpress installation is asking you for FTP details when attempting to install new plugins, you just need to ensure that it has permission to write to it's own folders.
Windows Browser Choice
Well another idiot in the EU has decided to force their will on people yet again. Microsoft has been forced to push out a totally idiotic update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976002 popping up an option screen forcing the user to select a browser...
If a user is not intelligent enough to simply install their own browsers then they probably are going to want to be left well alone and on the default browser.
I already have the browsers I want installed so in an attempt to remove the idiot screen I tried to install the latest version of IE8 only to be informed that my installed version was newer... nice
To ensure it did not pop up again I did the following: -
Click Start (AKA the stupid windows logo in a circle) then run (XP) or the search box... on Shista and type "msconfig" and press enter.
In the window that appears go to the startup tab and remove the wretched waste of time (look in the command column for browserchoice.exe) from the list by unticking it and pressing apply. As it's M$ it will want to restart because you have made a tiny minor change.
Unfortunately the executable itself appears to be un-deletable even for the admin user.. and there is no standard un-install.
How did you find this blog?
This is rather a quick posting about Google optimisation. I have been playing around with certain settings and passing on my site map to google webmaster tools and yahoo's equivalent and have seen a really large surge in visitors to my little blog here. I was just wondering if any readers could please leave a comment on this posting just saying how they found this site? Would be very helpful, I will then be putting up a posting showing how to try and push your way up the search engine rankings.
Ian’s Short Film Roundup
Another little posting about films, in advance I do realise I am a very harsh critic on films and have no actual knowledge about films but here goes anyway
I watched both "Drag me to hell" and "Layer Cake" this weekend. Starting with Layer Cake I thought over-all it was great, totally believable performance from Daniel Craig and better in terms of the smoothness of the stories twists and turns and complexity than both 'Lock Stock' and 'Snatch'.
The only thing that bothered me after a while is that it seemed to basically be the exact same story as Carlito's Way, even with the appearance of a Benny Blanco style character who eventually even goes on to carry out the exact same final role.
As for "Drag me to hell" well its yet another gross out waste of film really. It's tedious in parts and overly vile in others, with poor acting throughout particularly the performances of Alison Lohman and David Paymer and carried barely by the performances of Lorna Raver, Dileep Rao and Justin Long.
I think the only reason it isn't languishing in the 5 star region on IMDB is because it is an attempted return to 70s / 80s style horror. I should also say at certain points it's cringingly grinding and slow and obvious actually prompting me to want to fast forward through the bits I had already out-thought to get to the next bit of mild interest, particularly the dinner scene and the scene where the button is dropped in the car.
Ah well at least one out of two is not too bad really. At least I got the chance to chill out today while it snowed heavily outside watching "Three men in another boat" far more civilised and amusing and relaxing.
4550 miles from Dehli
Had a rather pleasant Friday all the people at work got a free dinner over at a nearby Indian restaurant from one of our managers. Really nice to see these things still happen at our place and it really does make you feel better about working there.
Also it was great to see all the people from my department there as we are generally a real pain for organising into a group.
Though I must say I still prefer the curry at Laguna hehe but 4550 miles from dehli was still good.
Magnum Photos
I have finally had the chance to really look through my Magnum Magnum book lately really appreciating the images and the mastery of photography Magnum photographers display.
I am especially drawn to the images of Henri Cartier Bresson, perhaps because I really enjoy the way his images seem to capture the essence of the entire season temperature light and humidty even of the scene so accurately it makes me imagine I was there at that particular moment. Then once you look a little beyond that capture of the environment you notice smaller less obvious elements groups of threes which draw your eye to different areas of the image.
I need to display the image here perhaps to better illustrate my point, this is as usual just a random rambling that will need to be added to soon.
