How did you find this blog?
This is rather a quick posting about Google optimisation. I have been playing around with certain settings and passing on my site map to google webmaster tools and yahoo's equivalent and have seen a really large surge in visitors to my little blog here. I was just wondering if any readers could please leave a comment on this posting just saying how they found this site? Would be very helpful, I will then be putting up a posting showing how to try and push your way up the search engine rankings.
4550 miles from Dehli
Had a rather pleasant Friday all the people at work got a free dinner over at a nearby Indian restaurant from one of our managers. Really nice to see these things still happen at our place and it really does make you feel better about working there.
Also it was great to see all the people from my department there as we are generally a real pain for organising into a group.
Though I must say I still prefer the curry at Laguna hehe but 4550 miles from dehli was still good.
Magnum Photos
I have finally had the chance to really look through my Magnum Magnum book lately really appreciating the images and the mastery of photography Magnum photographers display.
I am especially drawn to the images of Henri Cartier Bresson, perhaps because I really enjoy the way his images seem to capture the essence of the entire season temperature light and humidty even of the scene so accurately it makes me imagine I was there at that particular moment. Then once you look a little beyond that capture of the environment you notice smaller less obvious elements groups of threes which draw your eye to different areas of the image.
I need to display the image here perhaps to better illustrate my point, this is as usual just a random rambling that will need to be added to soon.
New Look
After moving the site over to wordpress I am going to be adjusting the overall look in the coming weeks and trying to re-arrange things and get some of the nice plugins working including a visitors map.
For now the link for all the images is over on the right under the "Links" section with a title of "gallery".
Importing from Blogger to WordPress
Is just brilliant. Word press provides the tools and luckily blogger seems to have an intelligent method of exporting all the previous posts.
If anyone else is considering moving from blogger after they shut down the FTP method check out this chap's site its got a brilliant step by step for completing the process.
First Post
Well since blogger decided to stop allowing FTP transfers to other servers for hosting I decided to install and manage all my own posts on my own server.
Hopefully it will go well! Time will tell
Multi-Monitors at last
Well about time I wrote something on this blog I guess. Nothing much is really going on here because of the horrid weather here in the UK just a combination of freezing temperatures and drizzle, how joyus.
Recursively Rename Files Linux
I was just doing this today and thought I would post the bash script I wrote to do the job. This particular example finds all jpeg files recursively and renames them to .jpg but you could just change the .jpeg part to anything and / or the .jpg part.
You just have to paste this into a .sh file and run it with sh filename.sh or set it's executable bit and run it with ./filename.sh
#!/bin/bash find ./ -type f -name "*.jpeg" | while read FILEdonewname=`echo $FILE | sed s/\.jpeg$/\.jpg/`echo "renaming $FILE to $newname"mv "$FILE" "$newname"done
Great day
Well today turned out a thousand times better than I had expected today. Initially I thought I was having a tooth removed which would have been horrible and then having to wait to look for a new car but in-fact the dentistry had to be postponed and I got myself a new car hehe.
Christmas is almost here!
And I still haven't finished my shopping and wrapping yet booooo. Though in better news I have passed my car driving test at long last. After years of riding motorbikes all year round winters to come should be a lot more pleasant.
