Vienna 2010
Posted in Travel on October 7th, 2010 by iyoung – Be the first to commentSlowely but surely I update this blog. I have been back from Austria a couple of weeks now. I went over to Vienna on the 20th and came back on the 23rd of September. I have been over to Vienna once before way back in the days when I lived in Germany and worked for the FZK! That howerver was only a day trip and a totally knackering one at that I might add.
Thankfully the trip this time was alot more relaxed and I was able to see alot more of the city at a normal pace.
The drive to the car park at Gatwick was a bit evil, due to my sat nav trying to guide me to the aircraft loading area rather than the south terminal, but got there in the end! Unfortunately when I did find the car park, it was closed, so I had to go to the standard car park.
I managed to find my way to my hotel via the cat train and by walking, also by asking a man dressed as Mozart!
I through the Stadt park and had a nice coffee and cakes at the cafe there. Then we went to the large gothic church in the centre of the city, you can see it from miles around, had a look inside and took a couple of photos.
I walked all around the city seeing churches and little baroque streets as well as the MAK museum. Finally I walked all the way to the hoffburg, opera house and then had some very austrian dinner.
Well today most of the day I was alone but I had a brilliant time, I took a trip over to Semmering to the historic rail road which goes all the way from Gloggnitz to Semmering. It was a beautiful trip, amazing scenery.
My final day, after checking out of the hotel and having a bigger breakfast than normal I wandered over to the stadtpark spent most of the day just chilling out and talking in the glorious sun. Then wandered over to where the big wheel.
Sitting waiting with other passengers, already I can hear the all too common sound of a moaning older Englishman next to me, almost home already..
